"All I insist on, and nothing else, is that you should show the whole world, that you are not afraid" - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
My philosophy of music education is that music is unique and complex, very much like students. There should not be one way to understanding music and I plan on applying that same idea to my teaching of music. Each student has the potential to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally in the right teaching environment. It is my job as an educator to create that environment in which students can grow. There are a few different ways to approach music education but some of the main goals that I plan to pursue is that students will learn to appreciate music and not just play it, and understand that what they are doing is important and that it has a purpose. When giving students a piece to play, I not only want them to know how to play the piece, but I want them to understand what the composer had in mind when he was writing the piece and see the main themes in the piece. This will help them grow to appreciate music better and help them understand more in their own lives. Music has a purpose and many times it is not taught to students. We are not just here to play a piece and get a grade. Instead, I want my students to understand that what they are doing is important in their lives and in the lives of the people that are listening. There is so much that I want to help my students with and this is just the beginning of my education philosophy. Students should be able to grow and thrive in an environment that encourages growth, and I believe that I can give them that environment.
